My Why

When I stepped into the world of sustainability and activism early in my twenties, I realized the importance of storytelling. The way you tell a story  invites people into to different worlds. The choice of words becomes the universe you create and either draws people in to connect to the message you're trying to share, or it pushes them away.

My message around sustainability was a hopeful one, and that message was my truth for many years: connection with the natural world is essential for a connection to ourselves.

Today, however, I understand that everything starts with a connection to ourselves, and that influences how we connect to the world around us.

There are many ways we can connect to who we are, and I am constantly testing out new ways of doing that. Through photography, myths, symbolism, psychology, hypnotherapy, shadow work, ... you name it.

I strongly believe that the path to a better world, starts with a connection to oneself, because if we can't have grace and care for ourselves, how can we give it to others?

Photographing these women through the years has had an impact on me that I can't quite get into words yet, but I am trying. In the meantime, I am borrowing the words of stories, myths and legends to bridge a feeling to an image.
