A Journey into Jewelry Art Photography in Antwerp
Yuxi & I crossed paths when I was looking for young jewelry designers in Antwerp with that extra edge... a je-ne-sais-quoi about them. When I came across her work, I was immediately intrigued.
Graduating at the top of her class from the prestigious Royal School of Arts in Antwerp, her innovative approach to jewelry design was the thing that first caught my eye. Still, it was our encounter that truly left a lasting impression.
When we finally met in person, Yuxi unveiled her latest creations, a collection she aptly named "Constructed Value." Through her pieces, she challenges the conventional notion of a diamond's worth, exploring the profound juxtaposition between luxury and simplicity. This concept resonated deeply with me—a reminder of the complex layers of beauty that exist in the world around us.
As our meeting drew close and others began to depart, I volunteered to see her off. While waiting for her to pack up her creations, I envisioned how I would photograph them. I wanted to contrast the pieces in lush nature and dark hues yet soft and captivating. In a spontaneous moment, I blurted out an invitation to photograph her alongside her art. Her eyes lit up with excitement, and just like that, our collaborative journey began.
On a moody November day, we rendezvoused outside a park in Antwerp, immersing ourselves in the creative process for hours. Against the backdrop of nature's canvas, Yuxi's enigmatic presence and the striking contrast of her attire against her radiant complexion lent an ethereal quality to the scene.
I sought to capture the essence of Yuxi's artistry, the fusion of innocence and self-assurance that defines her. The experience was magical, a harmonious blend of artistic vision and collaborative spirit.
