What’s COP24?
Since the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was adopted in 1992, parties have met annually to further the implementation of the Convention. In 2018, the 24th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC- COP24, took place in Katowice, Poland from 2- 14 December1.
什么是COP24？
自从联合国气候变化框架公约 (UNFCCC) 在1992年成立以来，各国每年都会以开会的形式确定公约的具体执行方案。2018年12月2号至14号，缔约方大会 (COP) 第24届会议在Katowice, 波兰召开。

Why is COP24 so important?
UNFCCC was an environmental treaty adopted in 1992. It has a framework that outlines how specific international treaties may be negotiated. Under the UNFCCC, we’ve seen the birth of the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement. To evaluate progress as set forth in these treaties, and to solve issues that have arisen in implementation, the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC meets annually2.
COP24 is particularly important because its main objective was to hammer out a roadmap for the implementation of the Paris Agreement. Specifically, it should have addressed three main issues: rules and procedures for how countries will meet their commitments, how climate action will be financed, and what countries are willing to do to exceed their commitments when they’re updated in 2020.
“Without Katowice there is no Paris,” remarked Michał Kurtyka, president of COP24, in an effort to highlight the critical importance of COP24.
为什么缔约方大会第24届会议 (COP24)这么重要？
联合国气候变化框架公约为各国协商其他的环境公约提供了框架。比如《京都议定书》 (Kyoto Protocol)和《巴黎协定》 (Paris Agreement)。缔约方大会的年会是为了评估各国朝着公约目标的进展，同时解决公约在执行中遇到的问题。

Who’s Greta Thunberg?
Greta rocked the world when she stopped going to school in August 2018. Instead, she sat outside the Swedish Parliament in a peaceful protest, claiming she would not stop until Sweden meets its Paris Agreement commitments. Subsequently, more children have joined her school strike every Friday.
